Refrein
And it’s no, nee never, no nee never no more
And I’ll play the wild rover, no never no more
Solo
I’ve been an wild rover, for many the years
And I spend all me money, on wishkey en beers
But now I’m returning, with gold and great snore
And I never will play the wild rover no more
Refrein:
Solo
I went to an ale- house, I used to frequent
And I told the landlady, me money was spend
I asked her for credit, she answered me nee
Such customer like youes I could have any day
Refrein:
Solo
I took from me pocket ten sovereigns bright
And the landlady’s eyes opened wide with delight
She said I have wishkey and wines of the best
And the words that I spoke sure were only in jest
Refrein:
Solo
I’ll go home to me parents, confess what I’ve done
And I asked them to pardon their prodigal son
And if they caress me, as oft times before
I told them to play the wild rover no more

To the finest fishing ground
To a place where a man and the gree and the wind
As while the sea will pride
The working is hard but the living feld free
On this wild Northern Sea.

With mighty waves all round the “stond”
With good booth a long on the store
Preparing the mill, he’s singing his song
It’s true, it’s you that i love
But land with how and long at the skim

The working is hard but the living feels free On this wild Northern Sea.

Now their comes the time to every man
When he must turning back to the sea
That a price on a live, gets man to hart
But the living it’s well free
When the man must gone for the needs he gets stuff

The Rose of Allendale

Solo
The mom was fair, the skies was dear
No breas came o’er the sea
When Mamy left her highiand home
And wandered forth with me

Koor
Though flowers decked the mountainside
And fragrance filled the vale
By far the sweetest flower there
Was the Rose of Allendale
Sweet of Rose of Allendale
Sweet of Rose of Allendale
By far the sweetest flower there
Was the Rose of Allendale

Solo
Where’er i wandered, east or west
And fate began to low
A solace stili was she to me
In sorrow’s lonely hour

Koor
When tempests lashed our lonely barque
And rent her shiv’ring saus
One maiden form withstood the storm
Was the Rose of Allendale
Sweet of Rose of Allendale
Sweet of Rose of Allendale
One maiden form withstood the storm
Was the Rose of Allendale

Solo
And when my fever’d lips were parched
On Afric’s burning sands
She whispered hopes of happiness
And tales of distant lands

Koor
My life has been a wilderness
Unblest by fortune’s gale
Had fate not linked my lot to hers
To the Rose of Allendale
Sweet of Rose of Allendale
Sweet of Rose of Allendale
Had fate not linked my lot to hers
To the Rose of Allendale

The old Triangle

Geplaatst 23 nov. 2011 07:52 door D. R. S.   [ 23 nov. 2011 08:13 bijgewerkt ]

A hungry feeling came o’er me stealing
And the mice were squealing
In my prison cell

And the old triangle ….. Went jingle jangle
All along the banks ….. Of the Royal Canal

To begin the morning
A screw was bawling
Get up you bowsy and clean up your cell

And the old triangle ….. Went jingle jangle
All along the banks ….. Of the Royal Canal

The lags was sleeping
Humpy gussy was creeping
As I lay there weeping, for my girl Sal

And the old triangle ….. Went jingle jangle
All along the banks ….. Of the Royal Canal

Up in the female prison
There are seventy-five woman
Is my  among them  I wish  I did well

And the old triangle ….. Went jingle jangle
All along the banks ….. Of the Royal Canal
All along the banks ….. Of the Royal Canal

It was Friday morn’ when we set sail
And we were not far from the land
Our captain he spied a mermaid so fair
With a comb and a glass in her hand

Refrein

And the ocean waves do roll
And the stormy winds do blow
And we poor sailerboys
Were sitting up aloft
While the landlubbers
Lay down below.. below.. below
While the landlubbers lay down below

The last Shanty

Geplaatst 23 nov. 2011 07:52 door D. R. S.   [ 23 nov. 2011 08:08 bijgewerkt ]

M’ father often told me, when 1 was just a lad,
A sailor’s life was very hard, the food was always bad,
But now I’ve joined the navy, l’m on board a man-o-war,
And now 1 find a sailor ain’t a sailor any more!

Refrein
Don’t haul on the rope, don’t climb up the mast,
1f you see a saillng-ship It might be your last,
Get your civvies ready for anot her run ashore,
A sailor ain’t a sallor ain’t a sailor any more!
The ‘killick’ of our mess, he says we’ve had it soft,
It wasn’t like this in his day, when he was up aloft,
We like our bunks and sleeping bags but what’s a hammock for?
Swinging from the deckhead or lying on the floor?

Refrein
They gave us an engine that first went up and down,
Then with more technology the engine went around,
We’re good with steam and diesel but what’s a mainyard for?
A stoker ain’t a stoker with a shovel any more!

Refrein
They gave us an Aldis Lamp, we can do it right,
They gave us a radio, we signal day and night,
We know our codes and ciphers but what’s a ‘sema’ for?
A ‘bunting-tosser’ doesn’t toss the bunting any more!

Refrein
Two cans of beer a day, that’s your bleeding lot!
But now we gets an extra one because they stopped The Tot,
So, we’ll put on our civvy-clothes and find a pub ashore,
A sailor’s still a sailor, just like he was before!

Sonny's dream

Geplaatst 23 nov. 2011 07:49 door D. R. S.   [ 23 nov. 2011 08:08 bijgewerkt ]

Sonny lives on a farm on a wide-open place,
Where you can take off your sneakers and give up the race.
You can Lay down your head by a sweet river bed,
But Sonny always remembers what it was his Mama said,
Refrein;
Sonny, don't go away, I'm here alone,
Your daddy's a sailor, who never comes home.
And the nights get so long,
and the silence goes on,
I'm feeling so tired, and I’m not all that strong.

Sonny carries a load, though he’s barely a man
There ain ’t all that to do, still he does what he can
And he watches the see from a room by the stairs
And the waves keep on rolling, they’ve done that for
Years and years and years.

Refrein;

It’s a hundred miles to town, Sonny’s never been there
But he goes to the highway and stands there and stares
And the mail comes at four and the mailman is old
Sonny still dreams his dreams full of silver and gold.

Refrein;

Sonny’s dreams can’t be real, they’re just stories he read.
They’re just stairs in his eyes, they’re just dreams in his head.
And he hungers inside for that wide world outside
But he knows he can’t hold it, though he’s tried and tried and tried..

Refrein;

Sonny, don't go away
